RETURNING SEPTEMBER 2022

Detroit Up North is BACK. The decade long party returns after a two year hiatus. This time, better than ever. Since 2012, Detroit Up North has been a weekend getaway that has taken place in Port Austin, MI. During its (almost) 10 year run, Detroit Up North brought over a thousand Detroit area residents to The Thumb. Through our partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, we were able to provide a weekend of exciting and collaborative programming for tourists and locals to support .

We are so excited to be heading (much) further north this year! We are partnering with Interlaken Resort in McMillan, MI. The resort sits on Big Manistique Lake, one of the largest inland lakes Michigan has to offer. Interlaken is a family owned and operated business, with strong connections to Detroit and southeast Michigan. Owner, Sarah Wheeler, grew up on Detroit’s east side and moved to Brimley, MI to work in the public schools, where she met and married Brandon, a local to the area.

Together, we are excited to bring together the things we love most about the Upper and Lower Peninsulas. This is an opportunity for our two very different communities to find common ground, learn more about our state’s diverse offerings, and enjoy the best of Michigan! 

 

This weekend long getaway is an opportunity to get out of your daily routine and connect with people from both Upper and Lower Peninsulas. Attendees will have the option to register as an individual, couple, or group and can rent cabins or tent camp depending on their preference and budget. Interlaken is equipped with a community kitchen and gathering space, large bonfire pits, a stage and patio, waterfront, and boats and fishing equipment for rental. 

 

Located in central UP, we are looking forward to spending most of our time at Interlaken Resort interacting with other attendees and enjoying the company in a new and unique place. Detroit Up North will provide programming, both on and off site, as well as plenty of free time for attendees to plan day trips or excursions.  Included in the weekend admission, attendees will enjoy plenty of social events, live music, 2-3 community meals, cocktail hours, swag bags, and more.
